Bacardit makes this work after reading the poems and the biography of the poet Gérard de Nerval.

It is an isolated work, that does not form part of the series "births" that she is painting at the moment.

The composition is based on three elements. A self-portrait, which appears in the central part; a cloud of birds that shape the hair of the self-portrait; and, in the top left corner, the image of Gérard de Nervald hanged.

In the left eye of the self-portrait one can perceive a thin white line. It is a drop of white pain fell down accidentally from the brush of the artist. In this moment, Bacardit considered the picture finished, believing that destiny had shaped her tears.
